Citizens Fire Academy Print this page The PHVFC Citizens Fire Academy is an excellent opportunity for members of the community to see what it’s really like to be a firefighter!
The PHVFC Citizens Fire Academy was established for the residents of Pleasant Hills in order for them to understand the operations of the fire department, to increase fire and life safety awareness and to promote a positive image of the Company to the community.
Designed for adults to learn more about how PHVFC is organized and how it operates, the CFA is open to persons 18 and older who reside in and around the Pleasant Hills area. The 6-week program will meet on Tuesday nights at Pleasant Hills Volunteer Fire Company. Participants will experience hands-on training which will help them understand what being a firefighter is all about.
From getting a set of turnout gear, operating the Jaws of Life and flowing water, to throwing ladders and doing search and rescue, the training is real and you’ll do a lot of it. The training is not sugar coated- you’ll be doing exactly what real firefighters do when they get to an incident.
Each participant will receive turnout gear, the chance to participate in a ride along, a t-shirt and a certificate for fulfilling the program.

•Hose Line Operations
Week 3, Tues. 10/5, 7-10pm
•SCBA
•Search and Rescue
•Ride along sign-ups
Week 4, Tues. 10/12, 7-10pm
• Vehicle Extrication
Week 5, Tues. 10/19, 7-10pm
•Fire Behavior
•Fire Extinguishers
•Ropes and Knots
Sat. 10/23, 9am - 4pm
•This day will be spent at the PHVFC
training facility utilizing everything
participants have learned during a
theatrical smoke filled search and
rescue and fire drill operation.
Week 6, Tues. 10/26, 6:30pm
•Graduation and Banquet
(Optional) Sat. 11/6, 9am - 4pm
•Heartsaver CPR/AED training
